Web design in Southampton, from people who live and work here.

Southampton is our home base. We design, build and host websites and online shops for local businesses, and we know the city and the people who shop, study and work in it. Every meeting is a video call, booked at a time that suits you.

A Southampton web designer who knows the city, on a video call when it suits you.

We hold every meeting by video call, so you don't have to shut the shop or leave the office to talk about your site. Being based here still matters: we know Southampton's neighbourhoods, its customers and the businesses you're up against, so we don't need the city explained to us.

  • Calls at a time that suits you. Before you open, after you close or in a quiet hour, with screen sharing so you can see your site as it's built.
  • Founder-led, start to finish. MJ Hub is led by its two co-founders. Marcel leads your project and stays your primary contact, with another member of the team on hand if he's unavailable at short notice; our in-house team designs and builds it, with no outsourcing.
  • Built and hosted in-house. We write every site by hand and host it ourselves. No Wix, Squarespace or WordPress plugins to keep updating.
  • Still here after launch. If something needs changing, you email or book a quick call with the people who built your site, not a support ticket queue.

What we see Southampton businesses needing from a website.

Southampton is a port city with a big student population and a busy independent scene. That mix shapes what a good local website has to do.

Independents in Bedford Place, Portswood and Ocean Village

Restaurants, bars, cafés, salons and shops mostly need the basics done brilliantly: opening hours, a menu or price list, directions, and a clear way to book or get in touch. Usually a phone-first information or business website.

Businesses around the port and cruise terminals

Southampton's docks and cruise terminals support a long chain of local suppliers, from transport and logistics to trades and visitor services. These sites need to explain clearly what you do, who for, and how to get a quote.

Serving two universities

With the University of Southampton and Solent University in the city, many businesses rely on students and staff, and their customers change every year. A fast site that turns up in local searches matters more than a glossy brochure.

Professional and trade services

Accountants, solicitors, consultants and trades across the city compete on trust. A well-structured business website with clear service pages and enquiry forms does a lot of the convincing before the first call.

Selling online from Southampton

If you make or stock products, an online shop lets you sell beyond the city without marketplace fees. We run our own e-commerce store, so we know what it takes. See e-commerce websites.

Outgrowing a DIY site

Many local businesses started on a website builder and now find it slow or limiting. A hand-built replacement is usually quicker, cheaper to run and easier for Google to understand.

Designs that suit Southampton's high streets and offices.

We've built concept sites for fictional businesses to show how we'd approach yours. Two that fit the kinds of businesses found across Southampton:

Studio Lumière

A salon site built around treatments, prices and booking, the kind of site an independent salon in Portswood or Bedford Place needs to fill its diary.

Web design in Southampton: your questions.

We're in Southampton too. Do we ever meet in person?

No. Even though we're based in the city, every meeting is a video call, booked at a time that suits you. We share our screen as we go, so you can see your site as it's built and point at exactly what you'd like changed. What being local gives you is someone who already knows the area, not a trip across town.

Do you only work with Southampton businesses?

No. Southampton is where we're based, but we work with businesses across Hampshire, in Bournemouth, on the Isle of Wight and elsewhere in the UK, all by video call. Southampton clients get someone who knows their city and their customers.

Is it more expensive to use a local web designer?

Not with us. Our prices are published and are the same for every client, wherever they are: information websites from £300, business websites from £1,500 and online shops from £3,000. You get a fixed written quote before we start, and nothing is due upfront.

Can you take over and rebuild our existing website?

Yes. If your current site is slow, hard to update or tied to a builder subscription, we can rebuild it by hand, keep the pages that bring in visitors and redirect old addresses so you don't lose what you've built up in search. See website redesign.

Who will we actually be dealing with?

Every site is designed and built by MJ Hub's in-house team, with Marcel, one of our co-founders, leading each project. There's no account manager in between, so the person on the call is the person doing the work.
