E-commerce website design from people who run an online shop.

We design and build online shops from scratch: product pages, basket, secure checkout and the tools to manage stock and orders. Our e-commerce website design work is shaped by running our own store, so we build for the day-to-day reality of selling online.

We sell online too.

Alongside client work, we run our own online shop: the SBC Tech Store, which sells single-board computer technology. That means we deal with the same things you will — listing products, keeping stock right, taking payments and getting orders out of the door.

Running a shop changes how you build one. You learn which product details stop customers emailing you with questions, why a checkout with one extra step loses sales, and how much time a clumsy order screen wastes every week.

So when we build your online shop, we think about both sides: the customer who wants to find a product and pay quickly on their phone, and you, who needs to see what's been ordered, what's running low and what needs posting today.

Online shop development, end to end.

Every e-commerce site we build includes these as standard. We shape each one around what you sell and how you fulfil orders.

01

Product pages

Clear photos, descriptions, prices and options such as size or colour, laid out so customers have what they need to buy with confidence.

02

Basket

A simple basket that's easy to review and change on a phone, with delivery costs shown before checkout rather than sprung at the end.

03

Secure checkout

Card payments handled by an established payment provider, so card details never touch your site. Short, clear steps from basket to confirmation.

04

Stock

Stock levels that update as orders come in, so you don't sell what you haven't got, and you can see at a glance what needs reordering.

05

Orders

An order screen showing what's been bought, by whom and where it needs to go, with order confirmation emails for your customers.

06

Fast, search-ready pages

Hand-written code, optimised images and clean product page structure, so your shop loads quickly and Google can understand each product.

What an online shop costs.

E-commerce websites start from £3,000 and typically take 6–10 weeks. The final price depends on the size of your range and the features you need, and is fixed in a written quote before we start. Nothing is due upfront.

From product list to first order.

  1. Talk through your range

What you sell, how many products, how you deliver or offer collection, and how you take payments now.

  2. Fixed written quote

A quote listing the features, price and timeline. We'll help you weigh up payment providers before anything is decided.

  3. Design and build

We design the shop, product and checkout pages first, then build the full store and load your products.

  4. Test, launch, support

We place test orders end to end, put the shop live on our hosting and stay on hand for changes.

Selling ahead of the counter.

Our Crumb & Co. concept design shows how a local bakery could take orders online for collection, so customers can order ahead and skip the queue. It's a fictional business, designed to show how ordering can fit naturally into a small business site.

E-commerce questions.

Are there fees on top of the build price?

Hosting is included, and we don't take a cut of your sales. The one ongoing cost is the payment provider's transaction fee, which every online shop pays on card payments and which goes to the provider, not to us. We'll explain the fees of the options you're considering before you choose.

Which payment provider will you use?

That's your choice, and we'll help you make it. Established card payment providers differ in their fees, payout times and the payment methods they support, such as digital wallets. We compare the options for your business and build checkout around the one that suits you.

Why not use a hosted shop platform or a marketplace?

Platforms and marketplaces are quick to start with, but you pay monthly subscriptions, app fees or a share of each sale, and you're limited to what the platform allows. A bespoke shop costs more upfront but is yours, with no platform fees and a design built around how you sell.

Do customers need an account to buy?

No. By default customers check out as guests, which is quicker. If you'd like customers to log in and see past orders, user accounts are an optional add-on at £750.

Can I add and edit products myself?

Yes, with the content management add-on (£1,000) you can manage products, text and images yourself. Without it, we make product changes for you at our published hourly rates.

How long does it take to build an online shop?

Typically 6–10 weeks, depending on the number of products and features. If you need to launch sooner, our immediate start option (+£250) puts your project first in the queue.
